The Activity

Developing mental resilience is a core feature in many staff development programmes. This engaging yet serious module aids understanding, allows them to look at their own behaviours and helps them to think about effective, coping strategies.

How the module works

Learners work through a series of 20 cards, on-screen. Each card contains a question or statement and there are three different types of card:

  • 10 True / False Cards – designed to uncover false thinking, challenge stereotypes and establish the main characteristics of the ‘resilient worker’.
  • 5 Real Situation cards - the learner decides what the main issue or issues are and makes a note on the on-screen notepad. They simply type their response on screen and this is evaluated later.
  • 5 Personal cards - these direct questions ask the Learner about their personal resilience. These questions are not scored and are simply for Learners to reflect on their own resilience levels.

The cards appear on-screen and the learner responds each time clicking True/False or using the Notebook. At the end Learners receive an overall score, a list of key learning points and the opportunity to draw up an Action Plan for improving resilience at work.
