The Activity

This activity essentially simulates a management meeting – but with a difference. Each person at the meeting has a list of issues they want to get across plus 10 counters. They cannot speak unless they use one of their counters, placing it in a central pot. They then have the floor until someone else stops them by putting one of their counters in the pot – they can now speak uninterrupted. At the end of the meeting everyone gets a list of questions about what other people were saying at the meeting – and guess what? No-one was listening!!

Trainer's Role

  • Introduce the exercise.
  • Issue Team Briefs and allow individuals 10 minutes to prepare for a meeting.
  • Announce the start of the meeting and allow 20-30 minutes for the meeting.
  • Stop the meeting and issue Analysis Forms and allow 10-15 minutes for completion.
  • Work out participants’ scores and lead a Debrief on the main learning points.

Trainer’s Notes provide full guidance.
