Important Update – Northgate computer programs

This is an important message for those of you that have a Northgate Activity which contains a computer program.

Current issue with Windows

We have recently been made aware of an issue with the latest update to Windows. We are not entirely sure what has happened yet, and we do not know the extent of the issue, but one possibility is that Windows have tightened the security on running programs, and so the latest versions of Windows (including sub-versions as it appears to be working for some and not others) is not allowing our programs to function. We have been supplying programs for over 30 years without any issues, so this is something that is entirely new to us and that we first learnt about only a few weeks ago, at the start of March 2021.

Therefore if you use Windows, it is possible that you may not be able to run the computer programs that come with some Northgate Activities.

For many of the latest versions of our programs, we do have MAC versions available and it is possible that the programs may work on slightly older Windows versions – but neither of these immediate solutions may be available and/or convenient for you.

New Northgate Trainerhub

Before we learnt of this new Windows issue, we were in the process of developing a new Trainerhub, where all our programs will be hosted online. The initial reason for the hub was due to the fact that security systems on computer networks generally are becoming more and more sophisticated, and so downloading files from outside sources was problematic for some clients. This new Windows issue, together with the initial reason, means that the hub is now our top priority and we have fast tracked the development work on this over the last few weeks.

We envisage the Trainerhub will be ready for you to use within the next few months and we already have some programs up and running on it. We are still working out the terms of use for our online hub, as we will need to charge for access to the hub due to the ongoing maintenance work required & associated costs, but there will be an initial period free of charge for any clients who have purchased recently and have the latest versions of our programs and we will of course keep you fully updated on all aspects.

Importantly if you plan to run any of your Northgate Activities that contain a computer program, please check beforehand that you can still run the program, and please let us know if you experience any difficulties.
