Each team has to build one third of a runway to carry a ball from one end to the other. The three parts are:
Teams answer a set of multiple choice question to get the resources they need. Teams could share the answers with other teams but usually fail to do so - but each team needs resources of the complete structure will not be built. So why not share answers? Once they have their resources, teams can begin building their runway parts - there is a meeting area where teams can discuss how the separate sections can fit together. The activity stresses the point that different departments need to work harmoniously together for success. What this means is sharing information readily and establishing good communications. Different parts of an organisation are not rivals - they need to collaborate for success.
We love 'RollaBall!' and seeing the lightbulb moments that teams have when they participate in it! It is so applicable to the real world of work. We recently used it with a group of junior doctors and it really highlighted the impact that different teams in different departments can have on each other and ultimately the patient journey.

Brilliant activity! I have used 'RollaBall!' a number of times and it always gets the message across – teamwork is vital to achieve the best results. I recommend it to anyone having difficulties with their team.
Fiona Flemington, Weightmans Solicitors
A very useful activity. 'Rollaball!' is a well-designed and ready-to-use, cross-functional team activity that generates many learning points.
Sarah Cook, Consultant, The Stairway Consultancy
I really enjoyed using 'RollaBall!' and achieved outstanding results. It was used at a conference for Chartered Accountants and the best learning points include the need for planning, effective communication and COLLABORATION, not competition. 'RollaBall!' is one of the most effective team work tools I have used. It is great fun for participants and builds an excellent team spirit on which further training may be based.
Jane Caven, Managing Director, Sagegreen Human Resources Ltd
'RollaBall!' really helps give so many of our first time managers food for thought on teamwork and project management.
P. Timms, Dept of Constitutional Affairs
Excellent! I used 'RollaBall!' for teamwork training with 12 first-time managers. The best learning points were the need to be less competitive and negotiate more openly! A fantastic way to finish a six-day programme – the delegates left on a real high. More games like this please.
