Don: I haven’t time to develop the right content.
Tracy: Employees don’t always see the value of training.
Ali: A lot of my groups lack motivation.
Dasha: Staff are often uninterested and don’t want to attend training.
Tina: I feel undervalued and lack the resources I need.
But it’s not all gloom and doom:
80% of CEOs see a gap in their employees’ skills as a direct threat to their business.
AND
94% of employees would stay at a company longer if it invested in their skills development.
With recruiting costs so high, this latter point is really important.
So, as a Trainer, you need to PROMOTE the value of training within your organisation (as if you hadn’t enough to do), show its RELEVANCE and CHAMPION the need for more resources so that training is seen as an INVESTMENT rather than an expense.
Here at Northgate, we believe that EXPERIENTIAL LEARNING (rather than lecturing or e-learning) can, and does:
- enthuse and motivate participants
- create high levels of engagement
- provide great learning outcomes
- increase productivity and morale
- give you, the Trainer, all the kudos
The key to good training is to interest and challenge employees in the context of an enjoyable (and often a fun) experience. That way there is more learning and more ‘remembering the learning’. And a crucial component is the TRANSFER OF LEARNING.
Participants need to ask:
- OK that was fun, but how does the experience help me in my job?
- What will I now do differently?
- How can I be a better team player in the light of the experience?
- What productivity gains will this experience lead to?
If CEOs hear more and more on the grapevine about happy, engaged and more productive staff, you might even get more resources coming your way to develop and motivate your staff.
And at Northgate we’ve got ALL the experiential games and simulations you need to do just that and to increase your visibility as a TOP TRAINER.
