Secret 1: Reality check
Managers need to know how good (or bad) their organisational skills are right now. Not always good news!
Secret 2: Identifying key skills
Managers need to focus on the time management skills of prioritisation, scheduling and delegation.
Secret 3: Practice, practice, practice
Managers need to practise utilising the above skills in a risk-free environment (experiential learning).
Secret 4: Consolidate and embed the learning
Managers need to action the lessons learned back in the workplace to boost morale and productivity.
Managing Time is the answer!! A Northgate Training activity that allows managers to practise the above. Crucially it gives them a score out of 100 for their efforts.
Teams represent a manager with a large inbox and three staff. As the manager, they decide what to schedule in their diary and what to delegate. And if they delegate, then who to?
Over 90 minutes teams complete two forms:
-
their monthly diary and
-
a Delegation Form indicating what they want to delegate and to whom.
After 90 minutes, while teams take a break, you, the Trainer simply copy the data from these forms into a laptop and print a 6-page report for each team.
The report analyses every aspect of their planning and gives a score out of 100 giving you an instant evaluation of how good teams are at managing their time.
Packed with great lessons about being organised, this is a must for all managers.
With thanks to Jon Davies at Get the Edge UK Training & Consultancy for sharing your teams in action!
Trainer Reviews
- “I found the 'Managing Time' activity to be a superb hands-on component for our time management training. The activity made the learning objectives - like prioritizing and understanding staff availability - truly come to life. The ability to practise these skills and receive a score provided a clear and engaging way for delegates to measure their performance. It's an excellent tool that helps participants bridge the gap between theory and practical application.” Mohamed Mansour, Learning Experience Design Team Leader, Knowledge Consulting & Talent Development
- “The feedback as usual was absolutely excellent. ‘Managing Time’ is an intense interactive activity and sets the scene perfectly for deeper conversations about time management and delegation. The review questionnaires allow the groups to take part in an in depth self-reflection activity and the ability to send the computer report straight to the delegates email addresses for additional review and action planning is an impressive feature.” Annie Lindsay, Director, Tickety-Boo Training
