There are five main signs of dysfunctional teams in the workplace. They are:
- Lack of trust (conceal errors)
- Fear of conflict (keeps head below parapet)
- Lack of commitment (lethargic)
- Avoidance of accountability (not taking responsibility)
- Inattention to results (inward looking)
The good news is that Northgate activities can help banish DYSFUNCTIONAL teams forever. You can easily identify the issues and work to counteract them. Useful activities for this include:
- Deadline 30 Minutes! (30 minutes + debrief) A short, sharp test of teams’ ability to work together under pressure, with accuracy and good time management.
- Set Your Objective! (1.25 hours + debrief) Teams plan how many tasks to take on, prioritising the most urgent and making sure they set only realistic and achievable objectives, and then have to complete them within a fixed timeframe.
- Managing the Workforce (1.25 hours +debrief) This is an activity for 12 delegates, split into three teams. Each team represents Managers, Supervisors & Production Staff of a toy company, and they must work together effectively to succeed. Highlights the ways to create an informed, motivated and confident work team of whom you have high expectations.
- Chinese Tower (1 hour + debrief) A test of teamwork and customer service skills as teams must build a tower to meet the customer's specification. Highlights the importance of having clear objectives and not making assumptions.
