Northgate Newsletter May 2026

Hello to all Trainers, Consultants and L&D Specialists!

Here’s a round up of what’s been going on this month! Read to the bottom for a fun puzzle for your next coffee break (also great to use on any course to get those critical thinking juices flowing). It’s a simple puzzle - just needs a moment’s clear thought…

Teams in action during #LAWWEEK2026

Thanks to Caroline Trainor & Sinead O’Connor, HRD Business Partners at Almac Group for sharing great photos of Northgate activity Team Roles in Action! during Learning at Work Week last week. Feedback included that it was “high-energy and interactive” and “a great success creating a great buzz in the room!” - looks like it was a fun session!

Run it with your teams? Please tag us on LinkedIn @NorthgateTrainingActivities if you have pictures to share - we’d love to see them!

Your greatest asset isn't a new hire... it's already in the room

Organisations pulling ahead right now aren’t waiting for the perfect candidate, they’re investing in the people they already have.

The strongest theme in L&D for 2026 is helping people work effectively alongside AI while strengthening the unique human capabilities - emotional intelligence, critical thinking, communication, adaptability - that no algorithm can replicate. Talk to us about your next training course - we’ll be happy to suggest some ideas.

Webinar - Friday 19 June 11am (30 mins) | Teams
Join us next month for a 30 minute practical walkthrough of Hotel - a business simulation which now includes a version for face-to-face classrooms and an online version!

You'll see exactly what teams receive at the start of the simulation, plus a full trainer walkthrough including live data input - everything you need to feel confident running it with your own groups.
The 30-Minute Manager! in action!

Thanks for sharing on LinkedIn some great photos of delegates taking part in The 30-Minute Manager Training Activity last week as part of a Management Skills Development Programme led by Matthew Tweedale, Talent Development Advisor at Gateley Plc. It looks like another brilliant session. This is a great game for getting delegates to really think about what attributes make an effective manager. Find out more here.

NEW: Complete Trainer’s Library
The Complete Trainer’s Library comprising a collection of 80 tried and tested activities!
Ideal for teams looking for a ready-to-use library of interactive resources for your L&D team to dip into whenever they’re designing new courses.

Boost Team Skills… Fast!

Before going into a major activity it’s always worth testing the water. And for that a simple starter is the answer. It settles teams down and reveals one of two things - a) how good they are as a team, or b) how much they might improve. So for a Trainer, it’s a win-win.
When you move to a longer activity, they can either put all their good traits into action or they can pick up the lessons and go forward with confidence. The Power of Teams is ideal for this approach. In just 40 minutes you can diagnose a team and draw out key lessons to improve their style.

Licence Renewals
Amazing how quickly time seems to go! For lots of you it’s licence renewal time so we’ve been busy processing licence renewals this month. Renewals are for another five years - offering unbeatable value for money - so if you want to continue using your games do get in touch to renew in good time. And please let us know if you’d like any colleagues adding to your Hub dashboard to access your library of resources.

Puzzle Time!

A professor had three candidates for a job. Who had the most logical mind?
The professor told the candidates he had four coloured counters - two red, one blue and one white. “I am going to affix one of these counters to each of your foreheads”, the professor said, “and the first one to tell me what colour they have on their forehead gets the job”. The candidates could not see their own counter and there were no mirrors! The professor put a blue counter on Candidate 1, a white counter on Candidate 2 and a red counter on Candidate 3. Who answered first?
